Report Generation

If you are working on a long-term measuring project where periodic reports need to be delivered, each time with very similar content, it is possible that you have been making unnecessary work for yourself until now. A common solution to such a situation is the technically easiest, but from a longer time horizon the most laborious. It is not surprising that this involves common manual rewriting of previous documents involving the use of the tedious sequence 'Delete > Ctrl+C > Ctrl+V'. Unfortunately, the result of such a method often contains errors in the form of forgetting some remnants of the previous document and factual outdatedness of the given passages of the document. You will probably get by with such a solution for smaller documents and limited repetition of this undignified process, but certainly by the second repetition you will be wondering if it could be done better. The answer is YES and there is not just one solution.

Automatic Sensing is preparing the possibility of automatic generation of reports according to a given template in DOCX or ODT format. Of course, there will be the possibility of setting up periodic generation and sending documents to e-mail. The whole process significantly relieves your time and you can focus only on the essential work associated with your measuring project.

Another variant uses the built-in capabilities of the document editor on your computer (Word or LibreOffice). One not very well-known function is the insertion of content that is not physically part of the document, but is located outside as a separate file that is only attached by reference. If you create your report using external references to images or other data, you then only need to change these external files and your report is automatically updated with the latest status of these files. The Automatic Sensing information system names data consistently during export, so for example the chart of a given measuring station will always be named the same. This eliminates endless manual copying of data into the document and thus potential errors. Instructions on how to correctly attach data to the document can be found here.
